Other
voices "in the know"
Here we collect statements made by people who we believe
have an insider's view of the books.
ALFONSO CUARON
28 May 2004: "Alfonso Cuaron: the man
behind the magic." CBBC Newsround.
URL: http://news.bbc.co.uk/cbbcnews/hi/tv_film/newsid_3758000/3758101.stm
- JKR told Cuaron that there is a graveyard at Hogwarts, over near
the other side of the castle to where Hermione punched Draco. The graveyard
will play an important part in book 6 or 7.
- She also said that a sundial would make perfect sense because when
the castle was built it was on an ancient Celtic site.
ALAN RICKMAN
22 November 2003: "An interview with
Alan Rickman." Celebrity Interviews, Handbag.com.
URL: http://www.handbag.com/gossip/celebrityinterviews/alanrickman/
- Alan Rickman on what Snape is like: "There's such still waters
in there." There is a lot of stuff we don't know about because
JK hasn't told us; Rickman knows a couple of things we don't.
Undated: "Alan Rickman - Professing the
Snape..." Unreel Magazine.
URL: http://www.unreel.co.uk/features/featurealanrickman.cfm
- Alan Rickman believes Snape isn't that taken with Harry, "probably
because he finds him a little too popular for a first year pupil, I
suppose."
- Alan Rickman: "I think at heart Snape is basically quite an
insecure person, he's always longing to be something else that people
will really respect like a black magician not just a school master.
That's why he envies the more popular and successful boys like Harry.
He does have a positive side though, even though Harry's a thorn in
his side he doesn't let it worry him too much."
BARBARA MARCUS
5 June, 2005: "Publisher has over 10
million Potter books ready," Reuters
URL: http://www.quick-quote-quill.org/articles/2005/0605-reuters-parsons.htm
- Barbara Marcus says "Someone dies [in Book 6] but it's not
Harry or Voldemort."
JIM DALE
3 June, 2005: "Inside BookExpo America:
Star-struck on Day 2 [excerpt], NewsDay.com
URL: http://bookexpo.blogspot.com/2005/06/63-star-struck-on-day-2.html
- Jim Dale on Book 6: "I do know who dies."
- Jim Dale thinks Book 6 is J.K. Rowling's best.
ARTHUR LEVINE
4 June, 2005: "Inside BookExpo America:
Hints of Harry Potter [excerpt]," NewsDay.com
URL: http://bookexpo.blogspot.com/2005/06/64-hints-of-harry-potter.html
- Arthur Levine says: Harry is "definitely growing up in all areas
of his life."
- Arthur Levine says: Book 6 is not as dark as the last, though the
overall arc of the series is that the "world is getting more pernicious."
- Arthur Levine says: Book 6 "has more romance in general."
16 June, 2005: "The Scholastic 30-Days-to-HBP
Countdown: Arthur Levine and Barbara Marcus Talk to TLC," The
Leaky Cauldron
URL: http://www.quick-quote-quill.org/articles/2005/0605-leaky-anelli.htm
- Arthur Levine says of Book 6.: "[Fans] ... are finally getting
a lot of answers ..."
- Arthur Levine says about Hermione: "You go girl!" (implying
that as a character she really comes into her own strength in Book
6 ).
- Arthur Levine says of Book 6 (is he joking or not?): "this little
tiny minor detail from book two suddenly becomes a plot point - I'm
making that up by the way, that's randomly chosen from my head [laughter]."
